In a bid to tackle Apple’s dominance, Google is opening its first retail store next month. The tech giant has released photos and a video of the operation, officially set to open on June 17. Located under Google offices in the downtown neighborhood of Chelsea in New York City, the store will showcase a range of Google products. Not only will customers be able to purchase Google devices, such as FitBits and Pixel phones, but the space will also act as an immerse experience. Shoppers will be able to see how Google products interact with Google services. They’ll also be able to pick up several third-party accessories along with Google branded clothing. They can interact with the custom screens and utilize Google Translate services, getting a small taste of what Google is hoping to achieve with its brand going forward. Designed as more of a showroom, experts will be on hand to help answer people’s questions and demonstrate Google products. There will be a number of rooms dedicated to certain products, such as a Stadia room for gaming and another displaying living room products. “We wanted our first store to reflect the same approach we take to designing our products: making sure they’re always helpful to people,” said Google’s Ivy Ross and Nathan Allen in a press release. “The result is a space we believe is warm and inviting, while providing new ways to celebrate and experience Google through our phones, displays, speakers, wearables, and more.” The store is also sustainable, with much of the flooring and furniture made from recycled materials. Google even earned a platinum rating from Leeds for its environmental design. The Google Store opens at 10:00 am June 17.
