Possible robot Mark Zuckerberg wants us to join the Metaverse! The man responsible for Facebook has decided it’s time to rebrand the tech company as Meta as it looks to the future. “From now on, we’re going to be metaverse first,” Zuckerberg said during the Connect Conference. “Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future. Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company, and I want to anchor our work and identity on what we’re building toward.” This conveniently comes as Facebook is mired in controversy after whistleblower Frances Haugen testified before a Senate subcommittee about the dodgy dealings of the largest social media company in the world. Of course, Zuckerberg doesn’t see it this way. As he told Verge; “Even though I think some people might want to make that connection, I think that’s sort of a ridiculous thing. If anything, I think that this is not the environment that you would want to introduce a new brand in.”

So what is the Metaverse? In short, Zuckerberg and his cronies want to create The Sims but on a much larger scale. Meta will introduce users to Horizon Home, a virtual version of a home where people play as a realistic avatar and use immersive technology to collaborate with people from across the globe. It’s basically The Matrix, except you don’t have to plug in – yet. He believes a new ecosystem can be created in the virtual world, creating millions of jobs and pushing the boundaries of VR as we know it. Meta will include all of Zuckerberg’s other platforms, including the company’s social media networks (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger) its Quest VR headset, its Horizon VR platform, and more. The company also plans to invest a massive $150 million into training those who will be responsible for the creation and running of the Metaverse. It will also start trading under a new stock ticker, MVRS, on December 1.
