The Halo universe is expanding to the small screen with Paramount+’s live-action take on the hit video game series. Arriving off the back of the recently released Halo Infinite, the series stars Pablo Schreiber (Den of Thieves) as hero Master Chief alongside Natascha McElhone (Ronin) as the Spartan program-creating Dr. Halsey.
As you can see from the short trailer, this looks visually stunning and really captures the science fiction feel of the game. There are a few glimpses of faraway lands, massive space stations, and intergalactic spacecraft. And of course, Master Chief is seen in all his super-soldier glory “Dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant, Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure, and a richly imagined vision of the future,” the trailer’s description reads. Whether Halo lives up to its potential is another thing, as video game adaptations don’t usually come off that well. But if Showtime Networks executive David Nevins is to be believed, the show will be a hit. “[Halo the series] delivers the visceral excitement of playing the game, along with a much deeper emotional experience around the Spartans, human beings who got their humanity chemically and genetically altered,” he told Deadline. “The story is about reclaiming what makes them human, and therefore it’s a very powerful story.” Halo is set to premiere on Parmount+ in early 2022.
