Ki One Single Malt Whisky Tiger Edition is the first-ever South Korean single malt to be launched by local craft spirits distillery Three Societies. The limited-edition, 200 ml “Tiger” bottling pays homage to the Korean national animal and acts as the brand’s introduction to the fledgling whisky’s flavor. “Ki One in Korean means the beginning and hope,” said the brand on its Instagram during the September launch. “These two themes perfectly encapsulate our spirit as we are at the beginning of the single malt whisky journey from Korea to the world.” Three Societies Distillery Three Societies Distillery was launched in 2020 to prompt a new beginning for craft spirits in South Korea. The company has already launched its craft gin Jung One and is banking on a mix of entrepreneurial spirit, quality craftsmanship, and local ingredients to quickly build a following. Three Societies Distillery’s name “derives from the three societies which make up our distillery team. The Scottish Master Distiller and Blender Andrew Shand, the Korean American founder Bryan Do, and the Korean workers that make our company function.” According to the Korean Times, the initial limited release of 1506 Ki One Single Malt Whisky bottles – of which 200 were kept back for direct sale at the distillery – made it to five markets, including Singapore and Hong Kong. In time as the whisky’s flavor matures and develops, founder Bryan Do will be expanding the release of his whisky further in international markets, including the United Kingdom. Two more Ki One limited edition whisky launches will come prior to the brand’s full release in 2023 when Ki One Single Malt Whisky will qualify for the minimum age in which to receive official whisky status in Scotland and the UK.
