The 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR Strassenversion is one of the automobile maker’s most striking cars. Based on Mercedes’ CLK coupe, the futuristic-looking racer was first introduced to the public during the 1997 FIA GT Championship season. The Mercedes team would go on to win six of the series’ 11 rounds and claim the FIA GT championship with the CLK. Powered by a 6.9-liter normally aspirated V12, the CLK features a six-speed xtrac sequential transaxle and is capable of producing 604 bhp at 6,800 rpm. Other key features of the sleek design include 4-wheel ventilated ceramic composite disc brakes, front independent-wishbone suspension with coil-over shock absorbers, and rear independent-wishbone suspension with coil-over shock absorbers. Gooding & Company Gooding & Company Gooding & Company Gooding & Company The inside is quite basic and resembles a 90s racing car, with leather racing bucket seats, an analog gauge cluster on the dashboard, suede finishes, and a functioning air conditioner. The CLK featured is 12 of only 25 ever made and was purchased brand new in 1997 by German Hermann-Dieter Eschmann. He would go on to sell the car to a collector in Hong Kong in 2005 before Cheval Trust, based in Seattle, took ownership in 2017. The car has been meticulously maintained over the journey and comes with up-to-date logbooks and certificates of authentication. It’s also showing only 896 miles on the odometer, which is incredible for a car that’s almost 25 years old. Those interested can check out the 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR Strassenversion at the 2021 Gooding & Co. auction this August in Pebble Beach. The Mercedes-Benz is expected to fetch between $8.5 and $10 million.
